Reviews for Taverne Sainte Barbe
Review highlights
Based on 241 reviewsTaverne Sainte Barbe in Charleroi is consistently praised for its warm and welcoming atmosphere, reflecting a genuine local charm. Reviewers frequently highlight attentive yet unintrusive service, noting staff's ability to create a relaxed dining experience without pressure. The restaurant offers traditional Belgian fare with occasional unique dishes, all generally regarded as flavorful and of good quality. Patrons appreciate the reasonable pricing and the opportunity to enjoy well-paired local beers and wines. The establishment’s authentic ambiance, coupled with friendly owners and a casual setting favored by locals, contributes to its strong appeal. While language flexibility is noted, French remains the preferred medium of communication. Practical tips such as the need for cash payment are commonly mentioned, but the presence of a nearby ATM mitigates this inconvenience. Overall, the taverne stands out as a pleasant spot for both visitors and residents seeking authentic regional cuisine and a convivial atmosphere.
What a welcome. Patron immediately realized that we were Flemish. Immediately switched to Dutch a la Wallon. We had a nice meal there. I had a sirloin of horse that was gigantic. My wife had a goat salad which was also of high quality and tasty. After a long struggle, I was able to eat everything. The surprise was yet to come: Two glasses of wine, two beers and food for only 55. However, it is not possible to pay by bank card. It's cash and nothing else. There is a bank contact 300 meters away.
We found the place accidentally as it was quite late for the dinner. The service person was superb nice, proposed us some dinners and very good local beer. Food was good too. Excellent place!
Nice thing. Staff is attentive, but not pushy (you can sit for a while with one drink without feeling obliged to take another one). Food is fine and location is great.
It is a lovely typical Belgium cafe, serving traditional food in the company of the local residents.. Had excellent food and joined in watching the local team football, a great evening. English is understood in a fashion, but best stick to French. The Greek wine was recommended and was wonderfully tasty, never had it before. We will be back...Bring Cash, no cards, but an ATM is just down the road and they let us wander down and get some money.
Very good food, the owners are very friendly.
A successful stop at this brewery. Good value for money. Nice atmosphere and we had a great waiter, José
Transformations of Saint Barbara. Very welcoming place... Warm... Very good dish of the day and generous Mezze. Nice and sunny terrace. The owners are more than pleasant. Unmissable places on market days. I forgot they have nice waiters.
Another place where you feel like you're coming back to life...A boss who has only one concern: to make the moment pleasant for the customers. An atmosphere of a good popular café where it is good to stop for a moment..Every time I pass through Charleroi I take my time to enjoy a good Belgian beer in this excellent tavern.I recommend 100% if you want to find a local Belgian atmosphere.
